Trailer Trash Tater Tots

Yup. Trailer. Trash. Tater. Tots. I’m not trying to insult anyone, I’m just stealing the name of a dish from The Shore (in San Clemente — I’d link to their page, but they don’t have one). They have Trailer Trash Fries (french fries, melted cheese, hot wing sauce [or Tabasco … can’t remember, it’s been a while!], pickled jalapenos, bacon and sour cream), which is my guilty pleasure (especially on a Sunday morning after staying up late drinking too much wine with the hubs). Well, today I was craving something greasy and cheesy (thanks, Aunt Flo! sorry, TMI), opened up the freezer and out popped the opened bag of tater tots with exactly just the right amount of taters for a single serving. I think I giggled with glee. Now, I didn’t take the time to fry up any bacon, and we prefer La Guacamaya over Tabasco, but I did have FRESH jalapenos and cilantro (both a staple in our fridge).

Yes. I. did. And I texted the hubs to gloat. Because this is what he missed out on:

Wipe the saliva off your chin and go turn your oven on to 450 so you can delight in this sinful little snack yourself!

Trailer Trash Tater Tots

1 serving of tater tots (the exact amount is up to you, my friend; you can also use french fries, if you prefer)
grated cheese (we always have the pre-shredded Mexican blend from Costco on hand, but you can use whatever type of cheese makes you happy) again, the amount is up to you and how cheesy you want your tots
hot sauce (we use La Guacamaya)
sliced fresh jalapenos (however many make your taste buds tickle)
sour cream
cilantro

Throw the tots in the oven according to the baking directions on your tater tot package. Slice your jalapenos and wash and pull your cilantro leaves off (I don’t bother with chopping because I usually use a handful — have I mentioned I LOVE cilantro and am so happy I don’t have that weird gene that causes your taste buds to translate the taste as soap?) Toward the end of the baking time, sprinkle your tots with the shredded cheese. Put back in oven to let cheese melt and bubble. Once melted, pull the mound of yumminess from the oven and place on a plate. Splash as much hot sauce as you want, drop a dollop of the sour cream, and pile on your jalapenos and cilantro. If you aren’t lazy impatient like me, you could fry up some bacon to crumble on top, too. Voila! Greasy, cheesy, spicy goodness. You’re welcome! TGIF and TTFN.
